W3C and Accessibility

Details of the basespace system including the content management system, expansions, hosting and Google friendliness are explained here in plain English.

Basespace websites have a quality that is not just skin deep. Our content management system has been written from the ground up to meet the most stringent of internet standards, those set by the World Wide Web Consortium. It will produce website pages that are guaranteed to meet these standards provided care is taken when inserting content.

  • W3C XHTML - All Basespace websites validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional
  • W3C CSS - All Basespace websites use compliant Cascading Style Sheets.

As the internet grows to become a truly two way communication platform (Web 2.0) the issue of discrimination and accessibility is becoming much more important to businesses and organisations. In addition, bodies representing disabled persons are actively reviewing websites to ensure that they comply with those standards set by Section III of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), put forward in October 1999.

The W3C has established a set of guidelines and priority checkpoints that match those set by the DDA to define what makes a website more accessible. Our content managment system has many features improving its accessibility and we are currently working towards W3C priority levels 2 (AA) and 3 (AAA).
